Washington, D.C. DC United defender Mark Watson will undergo surgery on Tuesday, July 31, to insert a screw in a stress fracture in his right foot, the club announced today. United team doctor William Hazel will perform the procedure. He is expected to be out of United's line-up for 6-8 weeks.

Watson, 30, suffered the injury in May while on duty with the Canadian National Team at the FIFA Confederations Cup in Korea and Japan.

The Canadian international has started in 10 of 11 MLS matches for United this season. He has tallied two assists in 923 minutes of action.
